Wayne and Carol Bredvik
ON A GOLDEN POND
When all 11 grandchildren are present, the Bredvik home is a very energetic place. “It’s almost like camp,” says Carol. The house is designed to hold everyone comfortably in overstuffed traditional furnishings, ready for any and all visitors, with ample sleeping area.
The main level features the kitchen, great room, dining room, master bed and bath, plus a laundry room and office. Wayne designed two dormered guest bedrooms, a bath, and an open-gabled loft on the second story. “I find that the loft is my favorite place to read or just look over the railing down on the main level below. I think it’s that 22-foot cathedral ceiling with the cultured stone fireplace that really delights me,” says Wayne.
For Carol, it’s probably the covered back porch. “Weather permitting, you’ll find we eat just about every meal outside, including tea parties for the youngest children. Having easy access through the dining room patio doors makes this area very convenient for mealtimes with a terrific view of the lake. Actually, there are windows in nearly every room whether it’s toward the lake or to the front of the house with the knoll of hemlocks and pines. We are always getting comments that the view is great no matter what room you’re in,” she says.
The lake, which the couple delights in, has everything in both winter and summer that makes living here “wonderful,” according to Carol. “No one else has a log home near us and all the neighbors are thrilled with how our home turned out,” she continues..
“In the summer we kayak, water-ski, or sail. We even have one grandson who windsurfs. Once when I was teaching the kids water skills, the loons joined us for a swim!
“We get six months of winter around here, so it’s not unusual to have two feet of snow. That’s when we haul out our cross-country skis for some exercise. Afterward, we’ll gather around the fireplace in the great room for some relaxation, reading, or entertaining friends and family,” she says.
“Speaking of visitors,” says Wayne, “we were so excited about this house and how it turned out, we decided to become independent representatives for Real Log Homes dealers in the New Hampshire Lakes Region.”
So the Bredviks use their home as a model. The couple can show off their handsomely furnished home either in person or through their Web site. And Wayne, having so much building and design experience, can give potential buyers a great deal of valuable information.
The couple agrees that “this is just a fun house to live in. We like to look down from the catwalk, or sometimes just walk out through the glass doors on the basement level and listen to the loons calling. I guess you could say this is like living on our own Golden Pond.”
