Why Choose REAL, precision pre-cut vs. lineal footage Learn what matters about log homes

Producing thousands of REAL LOG HOMES® brand log home packages has taught us the importance of extensive pre-cutting and that other companies define pre-cutting very differently. It’s important to understand EXACTLY what you’ll be receiving.

Many companies provide a "lineal package" pile of logs or a so-called "pre-cut" package that’s simply cut to 12-foot, 14-foot, 16-foot, etc., lengths. The contractor must then cut each log on-site accurately enough to insure tight fitting joinery. This makes the integrity of the joinery system dependent on the accuracy of thousands of cuts in less-than-perfect site conditions.

Because REAL LOG HOMES® log packages incorporate more pre-cutting than competing packages, the challenges of extensive on-site cutting are reduced. A typical REAL™ log home, under factory-controlled conditions, receives well over 5,000 precision saw cuts and arrives ready for assembly. That helps ensure a precision fit and means that your log package can be assembled quicker with fewer costly mistakes and more time and labor savings (your builder will like it more too).

Your REAL™ log home will have (per plan) pre-cut corners, butt joints, window and door openings, and gable ends to roof pitch. Even rafters, joists, and girders are pre-cut and notched. Logs are individually lettered, numbered, and keyed to your blueprints for fast and easy assembly – you’ll know where each log belongs.

The following list is an example of the extensive precision pre-cutting (per plan) that arrives with a REAL™ log home:

Wall logs precisely pre-cut to accept windows, doors, and required pre-fabricated frame-stock that comes with them.

Solid log gable ends pre-cut to exact roof pitch.

Wall-logs pre-notched to accept pre-cut log or heavy timber floor joists.

Heavy timber girders (typically either a 12” x 12” or an 8" x 12" beam) are pre-notched to accept pre-cut log or heavy timber floor joists.

Heavy timber or log rafters pre-cut per plan to the exact roof pitch and pre-notched to accept the structural ridge beam and log walls.

Even porch rafters are pre-cut where they attach to a porch plate.

Imagine making all those cuts on-site with a chain saw. Now, imagine this instead: With REAL LOG HOMES® brand log packages, all of that cutting is complete before you ever see your package. Now that’s pre-cutting.

Find out for yourself how our extensive pre-cutting makes for easier assembly, more cost control, and a better home. Contact your local REAL LOG HOMES® Independent Representative today.
