The Downs Home
The Great Room. A large open center is just what the Downses wanted in a floor plan: one level, casual, and surrounded by rich wood walls, roof, and railings.
BUILDING BLOCKS:
For retirees, the perfect plan may feature one-floor living. A tried and true single-floor design features a basic rectangular or T-shaped footprint with the master bedroom and bath at one end of the home, an open concept or “great room” area for the kitchen and entertaining in the middle, and a guest bedroom or two and another bath at the other end of the home.
“You want a plan that is cozy for two people watching TV, but when you need to host a whole clan, you need areas that transition to holding more people and more activities at once,” says Real Log Homes® Independent Representative Ray Gilden. “When you have the dining/morning room and kitchen and great room all together, you can hold tons of people when you need to, but they’re still separate rooms when you don’t have a crowd.”
