Given the usual rural locales of log homes, challenging building sites are not uncommon. The Tipton Craftsman is a wonderful example of how you can use different features to complement a unique location. The massive front entry with its scissor-truss design creates an impressive and welcoming approach to the cabin and the trapezoidal porch post footings suggest an oversized Craftsman-style log home. Out back, a multi-level deck overlooks the valley below; making the daunting tasks associated with building at the top of a mountain all worthwhile.

Set in California, this home is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada range, this home makes a statement. Once inside, the beautiful great room’s beautiful stone fireplace and massive pine log posts continue the majestic ambiance of the surrounding landscape. The house itself utilizes various wood species, including multiple pines, knotty alder, coastal redwood, and Ipe, from the owner’s native Brazil.

The cathedral ceilings and large windows help make this 3,000 square-foot home feel spacious. Even in the one small hallway, large windows are used to keep the space light and open. The hallway leads to two bedrooms and bathrooms, making this the more private wing of the building. In the main living area, a dining area flows between the great room and the kitchen. A massive back deck provides views of the surrounding mountains.

Attention to detail is a big part of this project’s success. For example, the kitchen boasts such features as an onyx breakfast bar, knotty alder cabinets, granite countertops, and a hood above the stove that looks like it was made from copper but is wood.

The entire upper level is comprised of the master suite. This private suite even has its own deck. The master bathroom is another highlight of this project. The stone tile floors are heated and complement the copper sinks. A large jet tub allows for incredible views during a relaxing soak.
